MomJD is the premier web site for women in the legal profession who are balancing their career with motherhood. We target a unique visitor who is intelligent, hard-working, demanding, savvy, and dedicated to her family as well as her career. And these are just a few of her qualities.
In 1996 when Rachelle, founder of MomJD, was beginning law school, she was also beginning a love affair with the internet. Rachelle scoured the web looking for legal resources — from research to support groups. In 1998, she even started a web ring for women lawyers. One day in 2001, she stumbled across a site called MomMD, an online community for mothers in medicine. Rachelle immediately wrote to the site's founder and owner to see what MomMD thought about a similar site catering to mothers in the legal profession called "MomJD." As soon as she heard back that MomMD thought it was a GREAT idea, Rachelle registered the names and here we are today.
MomJD hopes to become the first place women go for support and guidance in every facet of their career and motherhood. From Judges to Law Students to those thinking about a career in the law ... we'd like to be a place of community. Even though women are entering the legal profession in massive numbers, we are still facing the challenges of gender bias. MomJD hopes to break down some of these biases by encouraging women to overcome them while remaining true to their families.
